Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about Rockmoor Wealth Management, our services, our team, and how we work with families and business owners across Canada
What does Rockmoor Wealth Management do?
Rockmoor Wealth Management is a Canadian wealth management firm founded in 2015, with offices in Nanaimo and Vancouver, BC, Calgary, and Winnipeg, serving families and business owners across the country. Rockmoor provides comprehensive financial planning, including full financial plans, corporate financial planning, tax-planning analysis, estate and trust planning, Individual Pension Plans / Personal Pension Plans (IPP/PPPs), disability planning, and risk-management reviews, alongside investment and insurance services. The focus is protecting assets and building long-term prosperity through clear, coordinated advice.
What makes Rockmoor different?
A few things set Rockmoor Wealth Management apart. First, Rockmoor coordinates holistic planning, working directly with your accountants and lawyers so your plan, tax, corporate structure, and estate pull in one direction, instead of the disconnected advice that comes from professionals who never talk to each other. Second, Rockmoor works as a team with your investment manager: Rockmoor leads the plan (through CFP and PFP professionals) and the independent, registered portfolio managers who manage your money, held to a fiduciary standard, join your meetings and work alongside the team, so you actually know the people making your investment decisions rather than handing your money to anonymous third-party funds. It can also be more cost-effective: a portfolio manager’s transparent fee is often lower than paying an advisory fee on top of mutual-fund MERs. Third, Rockmoor brings real depth in complex planning: the firm has grown from a small practice into a national one with a tight-knit team that has been together for the whole journey, building genuine expertise in areas many advisors rarely touch, including mergers and acquisitions, complex corporate structures, Individual Pension Plans (IPPs/PPPs), trusts, and disability planning.
Who does Rockmoor work with?
Rockmoor Wealth Management works with a wide range of clients, from everyday families to incorporated business owners and professionals, who want comprehensive, personalized wealth management rather than generic, mass-market advice. There is no minimum to work with Rockmoor; the firm would rather meet first and decide together whether it is the right fit. Rockmoor deliberately keeps a select client roster so each household and business gets close, long-term attention, with particular depth in planning for business owners navigating a sale, retirement, or succession.
Do you work with business owners and incorporated professionals?
Yes, incorporated business owners and professionals are a core focus for Rockmoor Wealth Management. The firm helps owners integrate their corporate and personal finances: corporate structure, retained-earnings and holding-company planning, tax-planning analysis, IPPs and PPPs, family trusts, corporate insurance, and succession or business-sale planning, all coordinated with the client’s accountant and lawyer.
What is the difference between Rockmoor’s personal and corporate services?
Rockmoor Wealth Management offers two coordinated tracks, with particular depth in complex planning. Personal services build a comprehensive financial plan for you and your family, covering retirement and cash-flow planning, investments, insurance, estate planning, and disability-related planning. Corporate services help business owners integrate their company and personal finances, including corporate structure, retained-earnings and holding-company planning, tax-planning analysis, corporate insurance, family trusts, advanced retirement tools like Individual Pension Plans (IPPs) and Personal Pension Plans (PPPs), and succession or business-sale planning. Many clients use both, and Rockmoor coordinates the two into one strategy alongside your accountant and lawyer.
What services does Rockmoor offer?
Rockmoor Wealth Management’s services fall into three areas. Financial planning: full financial plans, corporate financial planning, retirement and cash-flow planning, tax-planning analysis, estate and trust planning, Individual Pension Plans (IPPs) and Personal Pension Plans (PPPs), disability planning (including Henson/disability trusts and RDSPs), and risk-management reviews. Investments: full discretionary portfolio management through established referral arrangements with independent, registered portfolio-management firms, plus GICs and high-interest savings options (Rockmoor is a deposit-broker affiliate of GICdirect for GIC purchases). Insurance: personal and corporate coverage, including life, disability, critical illness, and business-related insurance, provided through separately licensed individuals and the companies they are authorized to represent.
How does Rockmoor handle investment management?
For investment management, Rockmoor Wealth Management works as a team with independent, registered portfolio-management firms. Rockmoor introduces clients to these firms through an established referral arrangement and stays hands-on: the portfolio manager joins client meetings and works alongside Rockmoor so the investment strategy fits the client’s overall financial plan. The portfolio managers provide full discretionary managed accounts and, as registered Portfolio Managers, are held to a fiduciary standard, legally required to act in the client’s best interest. Rockmoor’s referral arrangements and any related fees are fully disclosed (see the referral fees question).
What standards do Rockmoor’s advisors follow?
Rockmoor’s advisors hold recognized financial-planning designations, Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Personal Financial Planner (PFP), each carrying a professional code of ethics that requires putting the client’s interests first. For investment management, Rockmoor works with independent, registered portfolio managers held to a fiduciary standard, legally required to act in your best interest.

Does Rockmoor offer insurance?
Yes. Rockmoor Wealth Management offers both personal and corporate insurance, including life, disability, critical illness, and business-related coverage, as part of its overall wealth management approach. Because Rockmoor is a full wealth-planning firm rather than an insurance-only practice, insurance is always assessed in the context of your complete financial plan. Rockmoor provides a complimentary needs analysis and recommends coverage only where there is a clear, demonstrated need, never as a default. Insurance products are offered through separately licensed individuals and the companies they are authorized to represent.
How is Rockmoor paid?
Rockmoor Wealth Management is transparent about how it is paid, and clients do not pay Rockmoor a separate fee for its advice. For investments, the registered portfolio manager charges a management fee and shares a portion of that same fee with Rockmoor as a disclosed referral fee, so you do not pay extra for the referral, and a portfolio manager’s fee is often lower than paying an advisory fee on top of mutual-fund MERs. For insurance and GICs, Rockmoor is compensated by the provider (the insurer or GIC issuer), not by you. All compensation arrangements are fully disclosed.
How do Rockmoor’s referral fees work?
When Rockmoor Wealth Management refers a client to an independent, registered portfolio manager, the portfolio manager charges its normal management fee and shares a portion of that same fee with Rockmoor as a referral fee. This is not an additional cost to you: you do not pay Rockmoor a separate charge, and the referral fee comes out of the portfolio manager’s existing fee rather than on top of it. The full details of the arrangement and the fee are disclosed in the documents the portfolio-management firm provides before you open an account.
Where are Rockmoor’s offices located?
Rockmoor Wealth Management’s head office is in Nanaimo, BC, on Vancouver Island, with additional offices in Vancouver, Calgary, and Winnipeg. Because Rockmoor focuses on complex, specialized planning, its clients often come from across the country, so its advisors regularly travel to meet clients in person wherever they are located, with virtual meetings also available. Location is never a barrier to working with Rockmoor.
